High purity tantalum for superalloys

Global Advanced Metals (GAM) supplies high purity tantalum as an important superalloy ingredient.

The superalloy or vacuum melt grade (VMG) tantalum is commonly used in nickel based alloys used globally in manufacturing turbine blades and other parts for both aircraft and stationary gas turbine engines.

GAM uses a fully integrated and conflict-free supply chain to maintain control of the tantalum from ore to superalloy additive, VMG, to ensure a responsibly sourced, safely converted and high quality superalloy additive product.

Superalloy Additive

When used as an alloying element, tantalum provides solid solution strengthening, forms carbides and improves the thermal stability of intermetallics. Cast single crystal alloys for airfoils can contain as much as 12% tantalum.
